bookgazing: (all the cool kids are reading)
It’s almost time for the judges to announce the third winner of the Green Carnation Prize, the first annual UK prize for writing by LGBT. This project is a real endeavour of fannish love, started by Simon at Savidge Reads in 2010 and it makes me warm and fuzzy to see it return every year.

Since the Green Carnation Prize was started I’ve wanted to support it by delving into the books on the long list and talking about them in depth, before the winner was announced. But as anyone who has tried to read an awards list by themselves knows this is a mighty task when there can be just a couple of months between an awards panel announcing the long list and declaring that year’s winner. I just wasn’t able to tackle the list alone. So, I’m thankful that a few good book bloggers have been able to spare some of their time to pick up a book from the short list and now plan to post their thoughts about that book in the run up to 12th December 2012, when the judging panel for the prize will reveal which book has won.

The list of people participating is below and next to each name you’ll see the title they chose to read and the date they’ll be posting their thoughts:

Adam from The Roofbeam Reader - 'Jack Holmes and His Friend' by Edmund White (3rd Dec)
Ana from things mean a lot - 'Scenes from an Early Life' by Philip Hensher (4th Dec)
Mat from Mat Lee Reviews - 'A Perfectly Good Man' by Patrick Gale (5th Dec)
Cass from Bonjour Cass - 'Carry the One' by Carol Anshaw (6th Dec)
Jodie (that’s me!) – ‘Tony Hogan Bought me an Ice Cream Float before he Stole my Ma’ by Kerry Hudson(10th Dec)

I’ll update this master list as the bloggers put their posts up. I’m sure they’d love to see you asking questions and leaving your own thoughts in their comments.

Currently we don’t have anyone to read the sixth title on the list, ‘Moffie’ by Andre Carl Van Der Merwe, which means that’ll probably be the one that wins :D If you feel like volunteering to help us fill the last slot on short notice, please get in touch.
